Muslims in their thousands marched through the streets of central Cape Town on Thursday to vent their anger at caricatures a Danish newspaper published last year mocking the Prophet Mohammed.Police estimated between 20 000 and 40 000 people participated in the march, which at one stage snaked through the city's streets for more than a kilometre. It was one of the biggest marches in the city centre in more than a decade.
Hundreds of schoolchildren in uniform and elderly women joined in, chanting praises to the Prophet. Mothers with babies in prams also marched."With our souls, with our blood, we'll redeem you, oh Mohammed, peace be upon him," they chanted all the way from District Six to the Grand Parade, where the two-hour-long march ended.
